IRATA Course Timetable January - June 2009
Level 1
Rope Access Technician
Course Duration: 5 Days
Trainer to Delegate ratio: 1-6
Who should attend
This course is intended for personnel
with no previous rope access experience. Delegates must
be physically and medically fit and a minimum age of
18 years.
Course Aims
To provide delegates with the ability
to perform a range of rope access activities under the
supervision of a Level 3 technician, also be responsible
for their own rope access equipment.
Level 2
Rope Access Technician
Course Duration: 5 Days
Trainer to Delegate ratio: 1-6
Who should attend
This course is intended for Level 1
technicians who have gained a minimum of 12 months and
1000 logged hours of work experience in a variety of
tasks. Delegates must be physically and medically fit.
Course Aims
To provide delegates with the ability
to rig ropes and undertake rescues, including hauling,
under the supervision of a Level 3 technician.
Level 3
Rope Access Technician
Course Duration: 5 Days
Trainer to Delegate ratio: 1-6
Who should attend
This course is intended for Level 2
technicians who have gained a minimum of 12 months and
1000 logged hours of work experience in a variety of
tasks. Delegates must be physically and medically fit,
have a written recommendation from an IRATA member company
or assessor and complete an appropriate first aid course.
Course Aims
To provide delegates with a comprehensive
knowledge of advanced rescue techniques, be conversant
with relevant work techniques and legislation and capable
of site supervision for rope access work projects.
All IRATA delegates shall be assessed
by an independent IRATA assessor on the final day of
training.
IRATA re-assessment is required every three years at
all levels, this is achieved by attending a minimum
of two days training and subsequent re-assessment by
an independent IRATA assessor.
Re-assessment events are run in
conjunction with full courses with the candidates for
re-assessment joining the course on day three.
It is strongly advised that technicians
NOT engaged in rope access work for a period exceeding
six months should attend refresher training.
